What the judges said: “This scheme achieves one of the most difficult goals in garden design; it really feels as if it has been in situ for several decades. This is a transformational project. Devised as a journey through spaces, it feels composed and perfectly linked. The garden has a period ambiance, exhibiting confidence of scale. It is a well executed, integrated design with sharp edges softened by sophisticated planting.”

2012 Society of Garden Designers Awards

Winner of the Large Residential Garden Award for a country garden in East Sussex (see portfolio page ‘Traditional Terraces‘ and ‘Ways with Water‘).

What the judges said: “The transformation of this wide-ranging, impressive garden is astonishing. The design showed great spacial sequences throughout and Ian was very sensitive to the surrounding. His design really embraced the extended landscape and rooted the house in the garden. The garden is alive with textures, colour and form, on all surfaces that defined space. Levels are cleverly used, both formally and informally, to maximise the sequence of unfolding views and to blend the varying scales together.”
